Sommarhalvåret kommer snabbt emot oss och vi ser slutet på vårens aktiviteter i föreningen.
Genom vår anslutning till OCS London har vi fått ett begränsat erbjudande till en intressant studieresa till England. Vi klipper ur mailet från deras sekreterare Alan Ip:
”The OCS in London is organising a tour to Oxford in June. As we have a couple of places available, we wonder if any members of OCS of Sweden would be interested.
Attached is the latest itinerary for information. The cost of the tour is about £450. It includes coach transfer, entrance fees to most of the venues, lunch at a number of the places visited and the service of a guide throughout. However, participants will need to arrange their own travel to Oxford, their own accommodation, their own travel insurance and evening meals. A list of recommended hotels in Oxford will be sent to those who have registered.
I should also point out that the tour requires a good amount of walking, so people should be realistic in assessing whether they are physically capable of sustaining the level of activity over three full days. We will try to accommodate mobility issues, but it will be useful to know in advance.”

ÖSTASIATISKA MUSEET STÄNGER FÖR OMBYGGNAD OCH OMDISPONERING AV SAMLINGARNA DEN 6/5 FÖR TVÅ ÅR FRAMÅT
En tråkig nyhet för alla som har museet som en självklar plats för besök av sina samlingar och tillfälliga utställningar. Läs mer om detta på museets hemsida. Bibliotek och föreläsningssal kommer att hållas öppna under perioden.
Med anledning av detta kommer vi att ha en nyinsatt aktivitet nästa vecka på museet:

Compton Verney
A museum with a good collection of Chinese Archaic bronzes, from the Shang to
the Tang Dynasties. The 18th century house was purchased by Sir Peter Moores in
the 1990s who converted it into a museum. The Chinese art was carefully chosen
on the advice of Roger Keverne and Jessica Rawson. The grounds surrounding the
house were designed by the English landscape gardener Capability Brown in 1769.

Blenheim Palace, the State Rooms, 10-15 mins walk from Car Park
The Palace is the family seat of the Dukes of Marlborough and is stuffed full of
treasures. There are two cabinets in the front hall packed full of famille verte and
powder blue wares dating to the Kangxi Period with other Chinese and Japanese
wares spread through the house. The Palace was also the birth home of Sir
Winston Churchill.

Ashmolean Museum. The Ashmolean Museum is located in the heart of Oxford.
We’re going to look at Chinese ceramics from the Song to Qing Dynasties.

14:00-15:00 Arrive Kingston Bagpuize House
The home of Grace Charlotte (Marlie) Raphael who was the niece of Oscar
Raphael and accompanied him on his travels to China when he was sourcing
goods for the 1935 Royal Academy Exhibition. Her family still has some of the more
decorative Chinese wares from the Qing Dynasty and a Cizhou pillow from Oscar
Raphael. She also collected rare plants from China and the Far East. Oscar
Raphael’s main collection is in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and the British
Museum in London.

11:00-12:00 Guided tour and explore the house
Waddesdon Manor was the home of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, his sister
Alice, his cousin Edmund and the late Lord Rothschild. The house is decorated with
the finest French antiques and is part of the National Trust.
13:00 Lunch at Waddesdon Manor
14:30 Return to Oxford to arrive at around 16:30 – 17:00
